We are living in and travelling through a country that has the most deathly animals: venomous snakes, spiders, crocodiles, sharks and jellyfish. How are we doing so far? Here is the result of a one week journey to the Sunshine coast.
Aussie Style
Sometimes it’s just a lot of fun walking around in Australia and engaging with the people on the street. It might be stereotypical, but on average, these Aussies really are a friendly and open bunch.

Getting acclimatized in Brisbane
With just too much luggage I travelled a day with our kids by car, train, bus, airplane and train to finally arrive in Brisbane on time for dinner. After the coldest Melbourne winter, the temperatures here are very pleasant. We could still walk around in T-shirts, even after the sun went down. Continue reading “Getting acclimatized in Brisbane”
Travelling alone with two kids from Melbourne to Brisbane
Tomorrow we are on our way to Brisbane. We are travelling without Oliver, since he flew today already. This means I will be travelling alone with Kai and Luka. Continue reading “Travelling alone with two kids from Melbourne to Brisbane”
A day at the beach
It has just turned spring in Australia, when the sun is out it warms up quickly in Melbourne. So today it was 24 degrees and we decided to hop into the car and drive to the beach! Continue reading “A day at the beach”
No ordinary school day
It is the last week of term three. The last week before the holidays start is a bit different, a lot more unusual things are happening. Today I got to experience an almost full day of school, so here is my adventures… Continue reading “No ordinary school day”
Hiking the You Yangs
After having lived in the middle of Melbourne for almost three months now and only hiked in the beautiful, but not remote at all Dandenong Mountains, we were very impressed with the nothingness that we saw on the way to the You Yangs. There was so much space already, so close to the city still. I just can not wait to cross off one of our 38 things to do in Australia-list to experience the outback. After two months of school
The first term/quarter in Australia is almost over. Kai and Luka really like to go to school in the morning and come home happy in the afternoon. I find the progress amazing, we can see and hear big development in their English and in their confidence. Where Luka had problems reading anything two months ago, she now easily finishes an English book. More and more new words come out of their mouths and they ask a lot more questions. I find that a good sign, if you don’t understand anything it is hard to ask questions about it, where would you start? Continue reading “After two months of school”
Where to live with children in Melbourne?
The question: “what is the best place to live in Melbourne with children” was one of the most important questions that we had when we decided to move to Australia. “Why did you move to Mount Waverley” is also the most commonly asked question that we get here. So here is our story. Continue reading “Where to live with children in Melbourne?”
At the doctor
Yesterday we suffered our first casualty of sports. Kai was playing soccer at school when he fell and one of his friends stepped on his hand. He was sent to the school nurse (they are called “health centre” here) for a quick check. Nothing seemed broken, so he was sent home. But since he was still in pain this morning, we figured it would be a good idea to see a doctor. Continue reading “At the doctor”
