Recipe: Steamed Beef Dumplings

We just ate our first dumplings almost a year ago and it has not taken long before it turned into one of Kai’s favorite foods.

At many of the Dumpling places you can see the cooks preparing them, so after stopping at every dumpling place to see what they are doing, we found it time to try and make dumplings ourselves. From scratch of course. Continue reading “Recipe: Steamed Beef Dumplings”

Tassie Day 7: Launceston

We’re sitting in a pub at Lake Leak that has the best pub meals in Australia, according to the owner of the campsite next door. It is cold outside, inside the fire is keeping us warm and it is drying Kai’s shoes and socks that just got soaking wet from from playing a balancing game with the lakeside (the Lake won). Tassie Day 3: Salamanca market

A stay in Tasmania is not complete without a visit to a market, so why not go to the ‘creme de la creme’ of the markets: the Salamanca market in Hobart!

Every Saturday from 8.30 until 3 pm the Salamance Place in Hobart, which is actually a street, is filled with lots of people, the smell of food, the sound of street musicians and not to forget the market stalls themselves. Continue reading “Tassie Day 3: Salamanca market”

Tassie Day 2: Hobart

Having landed in Hobart the day before, and having spent the night at the local airport hotel, we took it slow in the morning. Partly because this was vacation after all, partly because this was the last night for a week and a half that we would have a proper bed, partly because this was the last time in a week and a half that there would be a TV, but mostly because we could only pick up our camper-van at 12:30h.

But even the nicest budget hotel room gets boring after a while, so we packed our bags, dropped them off at reception and went for a walk.

Tassie Day 1: Arrival

With the kids having their quarterly two-week break and me having an unexpected gap in my planing at work, we decided last minute, that a short vacation was in order. One of the places that was on our bucket list was Tasmania, and with flights being relatively affordable, the choice was an easy one.

So we booked the flights, added a camper-van, packed our bags and off we went.  Continue reading “Tassie Day 1: Arrival”

Spring beach walk

After a long, cold and wet winter, spring has arrived! And, contrary to what you normally see in the Netherlands, the weather agrees with the dates on the calendar. – Well, at least if you think of it in terms of the infamous Melbourne Weather, which changes from one minute to the next.

Making the most of this change, Willemijn and I decided to make use of the sunshine together, and to go for a walk along the beach in Beaumaris.

At the footy with dad

Hi my name is Luka as you already know. Me and my dad (Oliver) went to the footy. My dad’s friend Pete, and his daughter (my friend) Lucy came too. At the game it was the Saints vs Brisbane lions. At the game, first Brisbane lions where going for the win and then the Saints began to head for the win. Pete brought two packets of chips! One bag of chips was for the adults and one for the kids.

Close to the end of the game Lucy and me went outside of the stadium and we did some flips on bars. At the end …      SAINTS WON! We where so happy! When the game came to a end we got to go on the ACTUAL FIELD!!!!!

Kai’s first tennis tournament

Kai has been attending his new school for almost two months now, playing tennis for more than 10 hours a week. It is amazing at what speed his game is improving and great to see how much fun he is having at the same time. And while he has team competitions almost every Sunday, it was time to step up and enter one of the many youth tournaments held on a regular basis throughout Victoria.

Which is what he did at the 5th tournament of the 2016 Boroondara Winter winter series, held yesterday. Continue reading “Kai’s first tennis tournament”

Athletics Day 2016

Today was no ordinary school day for Kai, but a day filled with athletics. Since July, the start of this quarter, he is at his new school where the Athletics day is different from other schools. Since there are not many students at his Box Hill Tennis school they skip the school competition and all go straight into the District competition. They could choose two events that they wanted to participate in and almost all of them got to run in the relay at the end of the day. Continue reading “Athletics Day 2016”
