Showcase 2015 – a night in the theatre
“I am so excited” says Luka as we are driving towards the Monash University at 6.30 pm. Tonight they are performing on a real stage, together with more than 500 other students from the Essex Heights Primary School. They have been practising a long time for this. Cost of living in Melbourne for a family
One of the questions that we had before moving to Australia is what does it cost to live in Australia?

Cycling to Melbourne
10.10 a.m.: Kids dropped off at school, check, sunscreen, check, water, check, muesli bar, check! Ok ready to go. As I leave the house I notice that I forgot my helmet. Helmets are mandetory here in Australia, so I had to go back. Continue reading “Cycling to Melbourne”
Jucy Grande camper: our experience
Is renting a van and driving around Australia as idyllic as it sounds? We are normally hardcore tent people, that is the way we have seen a large part of Europe.
In Australia distances are slightly larger than in Europe (understatement….), so just driving somewhere with the tent in the trunk is all a bit more challenging, if you do not want to be on on the road three to five days in a row. Having two kids and a German husband it might have been the obvious choice to drive directly to the beach from Brisbane and stay at the beach, we did not do this. Continue reading “Travelling the Sunshine Coast Hinterland”
Wildlife of the Sunshine Coast
We are living in and travelling through a country that has the most deathly animals: venomous snakes, spiders, crocodiles, sharks and jellyfish. How are we doing so far? Here is the result of a one week journey to the Sunshine coast.
Getting acclimatized in Brisbane
With just too much luggage I travelled a day with our kids by car, train, bus, airplane and train to finally arrive in Brisbane on time for dinner. After the coldest Melbourne winter, the temperatures here are very pleasant. We could still walk around in T-shirts, even after the sun went down. Continue reading “Getting acclimatized in Brisbane”
Travelling alone with two kids from Melbourne to Brisbane
Tomorrow we are on our way to Brisbane. We are travelling without Oliver, since he flew today already. This means I will be travelling alone with Kai and Luka. Continue reading “Travelling alone with two kids from Melbourne to Brisbane”
A day at the beach
It has just turned spring in Australia, when the sun is out it warms up quickly in Melbourne. So today it was 24 degrees and we decided to hop into the car and drive to the beach! Continue reading “A day at the beach”
