Snickers cake

For my 40-some birthday I received a package from my friends Karin, Susan and Suzan. Along with cards and  great knutsels* they also send me a book with the title “Chickslovefood” and the subtitle “cook with five ingredients or less”. These friends I have known for the greater portion of my life, so they know what I like!

I was immediately inspired for this years birthday cake as I love chocolate and like to cook from scratch. After last years chocolate explosion (a definite must try as well) of course my cake will have to include chocolate and preferably not be too complicated, so a snickers cake with five ingredients sounds like the perfect cake to me. Paintball!

Walking through a local shopping mall a few weeks ago, we saw a stand for a paintball venue here in town. Talking to the guy and thinking about Kai’s upcoming birthday, we let him lure us into a “great offer” of greatly reduced entry prices. Kai was ecstatic.

And today we made use of the tickets and took 7 boys (and a few parents) to square off across the battlefield, pump-action paintball shotguns at the ready.

Birthday present for an 8-year-old – Part 2

Now that we had the trampoline sitting in a big box in our secret hiding place, it came to making plans on when to set it up. Since we wanted it ready on Sunday morning when Luka woke up, this presented us with a bit of a problem. Let’s just say that Luka (like most children I know) is not known for sleeping in on her birthday.

It’s Luka’s birthday today. And with birthday, you have presents. We tried to convince Luka that this year, we’d turn this around and she would give us presents. But somehow that idea didn’t fly with her.
