Packing up the household is progressing polepole, at its own convenient pace. The house is still quite a mess, but at least we managed to fill our bags, boxes and suitcase today.

It was like playing a big game of 3D Tetris. We started with piling everything we wanted to take in the plane in one place, with the empty bags and boxes right next to it. It was quite a mountain.

What followed was a lot of packing, shuffling, re-packing and weighing. Singapore airlines, the airline we’ll be flying with, has what they call a Weight Concept. This means that we can check 30kg of luggage per person, rather than counting the number of pieces. This also means that we are free in how the weight is distributed between the different bags, boxes and suitcases.

To get a feel for the total amount, we started weighing from the very beginning. Our hand-held luggage scale really came in handy today! When we started, we had about 30kg to spare. But as I finished each piece, for some strange reason, that margin got smaller and smaller. And after everything was packed, we’re just exceeding the maximum allowance. But, then again, we’ve also added our small tent and tarp to the pile. Worst comes to worst, we can still send that by mail from the airport.

Now it’s “just” a question of cleaning up the clutter in the house. And tomorrow afternoon we’ll fill the rented truck to move our furniture to storage. Things are definitely getting real…
Hoffentlich habt Ihr heute mit dem Sprinter alles in den Storage bringen können und schlaft nun die letzte Nacht in Eurem Haus. Sicherlich sehr aufregend – natürlich auch für die Kinder.
Alles Liebe!
