Do you need police, fire or ambulance?

Our second night in the bush: It is a beautiful evening and we are alone in Buandik bush camp in the western side of the Grampians. The other couple had left and the two guys have not returned to camp yet, so it is just us. That little green dot between the trees is our tent.

10 p.m. Oliver is picking up his mobile phone dialing 000. Which gets answered with: “Is it really an emergency? Do you need police, fire or ambulance?” How did we end up calling the emergency number? Let me take you back to minutes before. Continue reading “Do you need police, fire or ambulance?”

Koala encounter

We are on the Great Ocean Road and we are currently surrounded by koala’s! After over six months in Australia it has finally happened. Another one off our bucket list, two actually, as we did not eat one, nor do we intend to.

Staying at Bimbi park, a camp site in the middle of the Otway National Park, has given us close encounters with ‘active’ koala’s. Jucy Grande camper: our experience

Is renting a van and driving around Australia as idyllic as it sounds? We are normally hardcore tent people, that is the way we have seen a large part of Europe.

In Australia distances are slightly larger than in Europe (understatement….), so just driving somewhere with the tent in the trunk is all a bit more challenging, if you do not want to be on on the road three to five days in a row. So when we flew to Brisbane, we figured it would be a good opportunity to rent a camper to discover the Sunshine Coast and the Hinterland. Continue reading “Jucy Grande camper: our experience”

Travelling the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

We have been missing out on summer for almost a year now, since we moved to Australia at the beginning of the European summer into the coldest Melbourne winter.

Having two kids and a German husband it might have been the obvious choice  to drive directly to the beach from Brisbane and stay at the beach, we did not do this. Continue reading “Travelling the Sunshine Coast Hinterland”
