While we are in cold and chilly in Melbourne. Yes, it really is cold now! The weather forecast predicts snow at 300m altitude (we are at 116m). In the Dandenong Ranges we can see and feel snow, which is about a half hour drive from here, 10 minutes from my new job. Oliver is in 23 degrees weather, as he took the airplane to work yesterday and is in Brisbane for a couple of days.

The interview will involve a written test which should take about 45 minutes. After this we will review and discuss your answers, then you will meet the rest of the team. We’re hoping this will be the final round of interviews before we make a decision.”
After months of searching I finally did get my first job interview for a part time position in Australia. On my way it almost felt like doing it for the first time again. Just to make sure -and probably because of my Dutch roots- I got there way too early. That was not a problem as there was a coffee place just around the corner, where I could sit down, go to the bathroom and warm up my hands on the hot cup of coffee that I treated myself to. Kai and Luka have settled in really well, our house is filled with all that we need and more, I know my way around the neighborhood. Time for me to broaden my horizon – so I started looking for a job. Number 30 of our 38 things to do in Australia. A bit of a bumpy road.
Today it felt like we were expats somewhere in Africa. What might be normal in developing countries, this is not what you expected to happen in Australia. And certainly not for it to last almost a whole day.

Today was a pretty special day for the students, teachers, families and friends of Essex Heights Primary School. Because today, at 6:35PM, eleven of the students got a 10-minute window of opportunity to talk to a real astronaut, Jeffrey Williams, while he was flying by in the International Space Station (ISS).
Not something that is part of your everyday curriculum.
