Life is busy work. We often spend our days running around, trying to keep up with the hundreds of tasks that we still need to do, too preoccupied to stop and realize what we are on about. Not stopping to enjoy the little things in life.
Well, as they say, realization is the first step to rectification. So, instead of going on like I have, I have decided to take a step back and start enjoying the little things. Like taking my daughter to school.
With Kai going to a school 15-20 car-minutes away, getting his sister to her school at the same time is turning out to be a bit of a logistical challenge. Typically it meant that Luka would get in the car early with mom and drop off her brother before going to school herself.
But a few weeks ago, Luka asked me whether I could go to work a bit later and me take her instead. Since I didn’t have any early meetings or a heap of work waiting for me, I obliged. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made in a long time.
We had barely closed the door when I became privy to all the latest gossip on what excitement the day was going to hold, and who was into whom at the moment. Normally not very talkative unless asked, Luka really had a lot to get off her chest in the few minutes it took us from our door to school. They were the best few minutes of my entire day!
I realized that day of how much I was missing of these little things and I made the decision then and there. I have since changed my schedule to make sure that I walk my daughter to school at least twice a week.
Sometimes there is lots to discuss and sometimes there is not much to say and we simply enjoy each other’s company. But whatever the case may be, one thing is for certain: this is one of those little things that I intend to enjoy to the fullest – while my daughter still lets me.
P.S. The images do not reflect our way to school (unfortunately….)
Wir sind beide ganz gerührt von deinem Bericht. Die eine oder andere Träne haben wir gerade verdrückt – vor Rührung!
Wir wünschen, dass dieses Erlebnis euch beiden tief in Erinnerung bleibt!
