These questions are being fired at us from the back of the car. Kai is reading out loud from a book that we got at the library. We are all sitting in the car, as if we are ready to enjoy our summer vacation, but the car is not packed with our camping gear. Instead, we are on our way to Scienceworks for a day trip. Where I normally have no problem finding our next camping location, this time I am struggling a bit. Things are not the way we know them. Werribee Zoo through Luka’s eyes
The following post is written by our 7-year old daughter, who only started speaking English when we moved here six months ago. Can you hear the proud dad talking? 😉
Recipe: making pasta from scratch
After the indulging days of Christmas it is time to return to the ordinary food. And for us, making our own pasta from scratch has become just that: ordinary food, which we all love to eat. The best part is that the children enjoy to help making it. Continue reading “Recipe: making pasta from scratch”
Green Melbourne
Driving through the city today, it struck me again at how green this city of Melbourne actually is. Every other block (or so it seems) there is a little (or not so little) park, mostly called reserves here, that break up the sea of houses. Christmas Europe 2 Australia
Celebrating Christmas in 36 degrees is completely different from last years’ white Christmas, so it takes some adapting. Which we did: we traded our Christmas pine tree for a decorated palm tree! Continue reading “Christmas Europe 2 Australia”

The highst temperature ever measured in the Netherlands was 38.6 degrees in 1944. If the predictions are correct we will be getting close to 40 degrees by the end of the week. So I guess no white christmas for us this year…. Continue reading “About to break a record”

Here is an overview of the costs that we have living in Australia. We are a family of four and live in a suburb 30 minutes from the center of Melbourne. Continue reading “Cost of living in Melbourne for a family”
Cycling to Melbourne
10.10 a.m.: Kids dropped off at school, check, sunscreen, check, water, check, muesli bar, check! Ok ready to go. As I leave the house I notice that I forgot my helmet. Helmets are mandetory here in Australia, so I had to go back. Continue reading “Cycling to Melbourne”
A day at the beach
It has just turned spring in Australia, when the sun is out it warms up quickly in Melbourne. So today it was 24 degrees and we decided to hop into the car and drive to the beach! Continue reading “A day at the beach”
