Our second stop was a known destination for us: George Town the island of Punau Pinang (also called Penang). We had been to this world heritage site a few years ago and were looking forward to exploring the charming city with its small side streets once again. Continue reading “George Town – Penang”

Exploring Langkawi by car
The first stop of our Christmas Cruise after leaving Singapore was Pulau Langkawi – largest of a group of about 100 small islands off the coast of Malaysia and the first of three stops in that country. Continue reading “Exploring Langkawi by car”
Summer Holiday ‘Out on a Boat’
It seemed like not much new was happening on our blog lately, but we have not been sitting still. Quite to the contrary: we were just in the offline world for a while. Yes, that still exists and it is great! We went on a Christmas and News Years Cruise through Asia. Continue reading “Summer Holiday ‘Out on a Boat’”
The Greenshell mussel capital of the world
While we were on our road tripping holiday in New Zealand, on our way to Picton where the ferry would take us from the South to the North Island, we past a sign that told us that we are driving into the green mussels capital of the world. And it was almost lunchtime. This just had to be a clear sign for us to stop here! Continue reading “The Greenshell mussel capital of the world”
Traveling New Zealand with a non-self contained camper van
We are passionate about the outdoors and freedom camping allows you to stay in more remote area’s. When I read that in order to stay at a free campsite you need to travel in a self-contained vehicle, one that has a toilet and a grey water tank and we had not booked that, I tried to upgrade our car. But they were no longer available. Freedom camping might be off limits for us this trip…. Continue reading “Traveling New Zealand with a non-self contained camper van”
New Zealand – Impressions
With the new drone in out hand luggage, we managed to take a few impressions home with us…
…about 16GB of them…
I have cut them down just a bit and created this little montage. Enjoy.
Camping in New Zealand
We’ve just come back from two weeks of camping in New Zealand, and it was a blast. But before we go into more detail about the different places we have visited, I thought I’d do a short introduction about the general things we have learned and encountered in this islands country.
So, if you are planning on spending some time among the Kiwi’s and thinking of hiring a camper-van, read on for some handy tips and tricks. Continue reading “Camping in New Zealand”
Renewing a Dutch passport in Australia – Part 1
Or should I say the adventurous of renewing a Dutch Passport in Australia? Since we are staying longer than the two years we initially planned, Luka and I are now looking at passports that are about to expire and we are planning to travel abroad in the not too far future. So, we can just go to the consulate in Melbourne, right?
Wrong! Since 2015 the consulate in Melbourne does no longer deal with passport renewals. Continue reading “Renewing a Dutch passport in Australia – Part 1”
Free flights to New Zealand
We just booked four Virgin Australia return flights to New Zealand and paid nothing at all! We will be visiting the closest neighboring country and that is almost a four hour flight from Melbourne. That is comparable to a flight from Amsterdam to Morocco. Yes, that is how remote Australia is. Continue reading “Free flights to New Zealand”
The shortest lunch
We do not live very far from the Yara Valley wine region, and although we drove through it a couple of times and had many ‘almost go that winery’ opportunities, we never actually stopped at any one. And it is number 21 on our Australia bucketlist and we still did not write a blog post about it. So when one of Oliver’s colleagues asked if there was interest to go to a food and wine festival there it did not take us long to reply.
The shortest lunch is organized to celebrate the shortest weekend of the year to ward off the winter chills. Twenty six of the small wineries open their doors and this is what happens. Continue reading “The shortest lunch”
