This is the envelop you do not want to receive

In the twenty-some years that I have my drivers licence this is my first red light traffic fine. NOT HAPPY! There are some intriguing findings about it though.

Take a good look at the fine itself:

The first thing that I saw was the penalty: 379 dollars (about € 270) !!!

The second thing that drew my attention was the elapsed time on red: 1.2 seconds. That is almost a split second.

Let me explain a difference about the traffic lights in Australia. There are traffic lights right where you stand still, but also on the other side of the intersection. I thought that that was a positive thing, as you can see the light a lot clearer. I now come to wonder if they put it there just to be able to send out more traffic fines, as I am sure that the first traffic light was still orange as I crossed it. By the time I was on the intersection the second light had turned red (by 1.2 seconds….)

GRRRRRRRR!

To top it all off: you can re-use the envelop to safe money. No, that is a great idea! You can really make friends that way! Send it and give the receiver a big scare (if you are familiar with the return address).

Things are soooo much better at home….

  2. Jee zeg .. wat een belachelijke 💵 bedragen zijn dat. Het zorgt er in ieder geval wel voor dat je je nog een keer bedenkt voor je door oranje 🚦 rijd. Dit staat echter weer in een schril contrast met de verkeersboetes in Scandinavië. Het schijnt namelijk dat de hoogte van boetes bij verkeersovertredingen in Finland gerelateerd worden aan de hoogte van het inkomen. Even slikken dan maar bij de €270,00.

    Hoe lang hebben de kinderen overigens vakantie in september? Is het nu ook weer 2 weken en dan rond kerst 🎄🎋 een langere vakantie? Hebben jullie nog plannen om er even tussenuit te gaan, of gaat dat niet lukken met de vrije dagen van Oliver.

    1. Ja, we gaan heel defensief rijden, want diezelfde palen flitsen ook voor snelheid. Doel dan toch bereikt dus. Wel een dure les….. Maar in Finland kan het dus altijd nog erger…..
