Dining at a child friendly restaurant

As we got married ten years ago we where looking for a place to go out to dinner with the four of us. Unfortunately we do not have very adventuresome children when it comes to food. So spending a lot of money in a restaurant is not well spend on them. Since we have not lived here very long yet and where shocked of some of the prices that are charged here for dinner I did some Google searching first.

During my Google search for child friendly restaurants around Mount Waverley I actually found a post from 2009 where someone asked for advice. Always a good source of information. Of course some of the recommended places no longer existed. But I did manage to narrow it down to two options: Sofia in Burton or Zagame’s which is actually a chain with more locations around Melbourne. They both have child meals for $6 – $8. Despite the fact that Zagame’s appearently has a huge kids play area and a mouthwatering recipe video on the website, Sofia was the winner tonight. Why? Sofia had a plain pasta, no sauce, just graded cheese on the menu. Finally a restaurant that understands… Sorry for all the cooks out there.

We were quite shocked arriving there. This place is huge! It can fit 300-400 people! The entrance is not very appealing with all the screaming prices and offers. But we were hungry enough not to follow our instincts to turn around.

Again a bit of hesitance when the food was brought to our table only minutes after we had ordered. Appetizers and the main course where served at the same time. But the taste was not bad at all! Ok, it is not gourmet food, but that is also not what you pay for here. If you are looking for an intimate, nice ambiance or a romantic restaurant then do NOT come here. If you are looking for honest food at a decent price, or a place to come to with a group and be able to share different Italian food then do give it a try and let us know what you think.

After we had very full bellies all our plates were still half filled. It turned out that everybody ordered and shared the meals. That explained why there were empty plates on the table. Fortunately a doggy bag is common here as well. Although I am not sure it is called that way. So we will have dinner for a couple more nights.
